We’re very proud of our design and engineering team for achieving this coveted certification. We had to make touch design changes along the way.
CSA requires that no exterior surface heat up to 140 degrees above room temperature. Parts of the face of the EMBER reached above 200 degrees above room temperature in test results so a redesign was required. After exhaustive testing we discovered that the top front grill was trapping hot air and transferring that heat to the front face, top and sides of the EMBER. To resolve this issue we had to massively open up the front top grill and isolate it from the rest of the body. Our solution not only passed the CSA but we had a couple pretty cool side benefits from the change.
-
The front surface temperature of the EMBER never exceeds 100 degree Fahrenheit above ambient temperature. The top grill where the heat comes out necessarily gets hot so don't touch it!
-
Cool to the touch surfaces - other than the top grill on the front, the top, sides, back, bottom and surface directly underneath the heater, are all now cool or slightly warm to the touch in 70 degree ambient temperature.
-
Air flow - the increased air flow is dramatic. We’re registering strong hot air well beyond the 6 feet we originally designed for.
In a non-scientific poll, about 75% of the people we talked to liked the new look better while 25 preferred the original look.
Delivery update - we’re still tracking to get parts to Seattle in late November/early December well in time for Christmas delivery!
